I don't concede your first point, therefore I don't concede the logical step to the second. A lot of people will click on just about anything on the Internet (and email it to their friends), especially if it's funny, and even better if it's the first of its kind.
Some guy just finished selling a million dollar's 'worth' of pixels in less than a year - that makes no sense whatsoever unless you realise that people will click on anything and everything when they're bored. The only value to his purchasers is in the people that will idly click on their 10x10 pixel links rather than actually doing any work on a Thursday afternoon :)
