Serendipitously (is that even a word? I like the sound of it) I am now hosting emilie, and I love her new site so I'm telling you to see it.

Essay paper this morning, four in three hours:
x. Does Lucretius 'reconcile the conflicting demands of his loyalty to Epicureanism and his "calling" as a poet?' Discuss in relation to DRN I.
x. Who or what is to blame for the tragedy of the Hippolytus?
x. What are the differences between the kind of expertise displayed by Ion and Socrates?
x. 'A fundamentally political arena.' Discuss that assessment of the Athenian lawcourts.

The first three were from section A, the last from section C. We had to choose questions from at least two sections or I would have answered them all on literature, but luckily there was a choice of at least ten questions per section. The first two were quite standard and I handled them competently, if unimaginatively; the third was not something I'd ever thought about before so I wrote it off the top of my head, counting on the fact no-one else will have answered it and managing to twist it round to talking about "Plato's expertise" in the conclusion; and the fourth was just comic. I only revised two philosophy and two history topics and none of them came up, so I somehow managed to slot what I'd learnt on Athenian democracy to this question by defining "political" as concerning the polis rather than the oikos, giving me liberty to talk about exploitation by the individual elite. I hope it worked.

I wonder if we can claim our scripts back; I'm always curious after an essay paper whether my perception of how I did is accurate, and how my style changes when I'm in a state of heightened-exam-tension.

It was my best paper by far, but the worst is tomorrow. I have done remarkably little revision today. I have, however, indulged in a new bag, a black oriental style top with a ribbon, a necklace to match my dress, and shoes. So what if polkadots are a cliché; they're still damn cool.

Hippolytus is, I think, the best Euripedes play after Bacchae; he is so fucking clever. I particularly like the character of the Nurse - a slave, a woman and a sophist, and yet she still gets some of the most meaningful remarks in the play. Euripedes' take on human nature and moral responsibility is just incredibly thought-provoking. (The other Hippolytus question was "is it more important to see Aphrodite as a goddess or an emotion", which I thought was interesting, although it seemed that the way the question was phrased would have made it difficult to answer with the sensitivity the subject requires. Or perhaps I was missing the point?)

Are you doing languages as well, or just literature/history etc? I'm always thrilled to meet other classicists. (you should write about it in your journal more!) x

the shoes are very cool; polka dots are never a cliche; everything else sounds wonderful {add photos please} -- accessories are the perfect antidote to exams ;-)

As far as I know, it's impossible to get your papers back - I think Mark tried it once, with no success. You may have better luck, though!

I feel silly for not knowing this already, but what is your degree? It sounds scarily hard! Love the shoes ♥

Oh and thanks for all the website link things!! :) I haven't checked them out yet but I added them all to 'favourites' so I can when I don't have to play the sims revise.

art-fag.net (http://www.art-fag.net) is mine. graphics, design, code, all mine - and so are all the sites on it (memento (http://www.art-fag.net/memento), silence (http://www.art-fag.net/silence) etc). The exception to this is ~vicious (http://www.art-fag.net/~vicious), which is emilie (http://livejournal.com/~_vicious)'s homepage, because the server hosting her domain (sunkendream.net) kept crashing and being generally unreliable, so I am giving her some webspace 'cause I have plenty.

make sense? :)

Yeah - makes big sense! And it is all very beautiful - i wish i could use my talents for good like you, and not for the evil half-bakedness it makes me do....and by the way, i like your mix of love for cleverness and clothes - it's so good to know my fashion desires aren't to be ashamed of....x

I cannot add photos because I don't yet have the perfect skirt to go with the top. When I do, you will see it in all its ribboned glory.

I couldn't survive exams without accessories, honestly. I was so stressed there were only two possible remedies - binge on food, or binge on clothes and shoes. And in the end I'd rather be poor than fat.

(qui est-tu? And how did you find me? I'm curious.)

i anxiously await the sight of your ribboned glory...

you have amazing fashion sense: the burgundy top, pink ruffled skirt, black polka dot hose & black heels is quite an ensemble!

i see an emerging polka dot theme.

i own several polka dot dresses. my fave rave one to party in is a navy semi-sheer 50's dress with an incredible shawl collar and small white polk dots which are made of flock -- a kind of velvet.

i couldn't survive life without accessories.

how i found you: i am one of leafofgrass' friends. i read a friend's journal & then i click over to their friend's page & read them & if i find something interesting i click over to that person's journal & if, after reading several entries, I feel thre's a possibilty of a meeting of sense & sensibility I go back to the entry that 1st caught my attention & write/post a comment.
