Your political compass:
Economic Left/Right: -6.12
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.95

(more libertarian than Nelson Mandela, and just to the left of the Dalai Lama)

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -7.79

Whee! I've drifted further into left-liberalism since I last took this, clearly. I blame neocons for moving the goalposts.

I was trying to work out how to paste the results into LJ - but I see you put it in your website first.

I came out pretty similar - -7.5 left-right. -6 libertarian-authoritarian.

Dear me, I never used to be quite so libertarian... must be going soft in my old age...

My result came out very similar to yours. According to that same website, our most representative political party is the Greens.

The last time I took this test there were more examples of famous people. I remember ending up quite near Tony Benn.

bloody hell, worst test ever. little more than an excuse for people to click a few questions, more often than not with only one possible answer with the bounds of common decency, and then be all happy about how communist they are. with a nicely subconscious hidden away comment about how george bush is the most right-wing icon in modern day politics.

and of course, "the political compass" website is a perfectly neutral standing point to host this whole social judgement, as it's not making any money or getting any publicity for this test... er no wait.

(not meant offensively, of course... just expressing my opinion! what did you want to ask me about coaches, by the way? you can get some silly cheap deals looking at the "funfare" offers they run sometimes...)

haha, yes. the questions were a bit loaded. I evidently don't have my "critical thinking" hat on at the moment. The "do governments have a moral obligation to the communities?" question would have been better worded "do you think governments should force companies to ...?", and things.

mind you, a couple of people on my friends list have come on the right sides of the line, and they're fairly decent human beings :)

(I was gonna ask how you get your silly cheap fares, cause when I go to the site it's always about £28 or something. But then I bought a train ticket, because there weren't any coaches at the right time anyway).

Valid points, but sadly 'the bounds of common decency' aren't much of a limiting factor when it comes to politics.

so at least i've got that going for me...

i think i'm smack dab where the dali lama is:

economic left/right: -5.00
social libertarianism/authoritarianism: -4.87

It does sound good, but to be honest, if I knew more about the Dalai Lama's political views, the comparison would be slightly more meaningful :)

Would Tony be more left, or more libertarian? I've only ever read The Writing on the Wall, so I don't have a great handle on his own ideas. Must do some reading. After exams.

yes, I was going to comment on your entry :) I got my poll card in the post the other week, but I bet I forget. Also I'm not sure whether to vote in the Cambridge elections, or do a postal vote for back home...

I'm sure the fact that I'm Christian made me seem more authoritarian than I am - you know, I think religious education in schools is crucial, and all that jazz - but as Christians go, I like to think I'm quite libertarian :)

Either that, or it's just a process of osmosis. I mean you have been back at Kings for a year, it's bound to have an effect.

Yeah, similar, but I expected to be more authoritarian for that reason - politically, I'm very libertarian, non=-hierarchichal structures, etc. - but in the past I'd have given a lot more 'authoritarian' answers on the 'traditional Christian morality (i.e. sex)' questions. I'm still anti-abortion, pro-faith schools, but otherwise I've 'drifted'.

I was most surprised to find myself marginally more 'libertarian' than you. :)
