1. My ready-to-be-customised mask has arrived! Unfortunately, it smells very strongly of something toxic, akin to an aerosol - I can't tell if it's glue, or paint, or the latex itself. Do any of you who (for example) wear latex masks for roleplaying have any tips on how to get rid of the smell? Will simply airing it do? Should I wait for the smell to go away before I start customising it? I really want to get cracking, and I don't want to waste time waiting around if airing it isn't going to help, but I don't want to seal in the toxicness by covering it up with more paint and glue before it has a chance to air. If the smell is just a feature of this kind of mask, I'll just have to cut bigger nose holes.

2. The plumber came round and our boiler is working again. Callooh! Callay!

I seem to remember washing in warm soapy water a few times getting rid of the worst of the smell of mine. Make sure you talc the inside though, so it doesn't stick to itself. Unless you're sticking it to _you_ in which case don't.

That's exactly the kind of advice I was looking for - thankyou! The tip about talc is new to me as well. Great! :D

ah yes, the wonders of talc. same applies to rubber garments of any kind - talk on the inside, silicon spray for the shiny on the outside. It also helps stop it sticking to _you_ thought. . I have, should you wish to steal some - colourless finishing powder of the sort that is used to set greasepaint and theatrical makeup. Is has an mild antiperspirant in it. It might be perfect for the insides of masks. . . shall I bring you some?

Unless I'm going to see you before the ball itself, I imagine it'll be too late. Normal talc for sensitive skin should do though, right?

Worth knowing that this applies to wearing rubber as well, since I shall shortly be doing that for the first time!

It's possible - we'll be in Oxfnord from fairly early on friday. I'll bring some with me in a pot, as it weighs next to nothing, then if we do end up meeting I'll have it. And if not, I'll pass it on to you and Joff and Helen anyway, as you may have a use for it.

Not sure what time I'll be arriving in Oxford - I haven't yet confirmed arrangements with [livejournal.com profile] strongtrousers. If I have spare time before the ball, I'll be inclined to go straight to [livejournal.com profile] purple_pen's, although again I need to talk to her about that :) But by all means, bring the stuff with you and pass it on when we bump into each other! Thankyou - 'tis very generous! :D

the washing in soapy water seems to have got rid of most of it :) I'm going to let it dry, wash it again, and then see how wearable it is - from the look of it that should be enough :)

Fantastic.

Where did you pick it up?

Monster Boutique - I just wanted it as a base; it's going to look fairly different by the time I'm finished :D

Hee! :) Somehow you being bouncy and flirtatious while using a Merry Band icon is one of the most disconcerting things EVER.

I was quite amused by how many photos of you there ended up being from last Saturday. Not that I was looking at you more than anyone else or anything. Oh no.

What, you're trying to tell me that you don't have... kinda a thing... for Toquell?

Not that I was looking at you more than anyone else or anything. Oh no.

*giggle* I felt rather embarrassed putting them all up, seeing as I'm hosting it and all. But they're fantastic. I don't usually like photos of me at all, and I really like all of those. Thank you :D

Well... maybe kinda a thing. A tiny thing. But still, I can't see him being fuzzy and flirtatious and bouncy, really.

I don't usually like photos of me at all, and I really like all of those.
Huzzah! You're looking a bit uncomfortable in some of them, but this doesn't stop you looking really pretty. In fact very little stops you looking really pretty. It's all rather distracting :)

You're lovely.

But you're right, flirtatious and bouncy just really don't suit him.

How about this instead? :D :D

Tolkien's (well, Pippin's) bath song

Sing hey! For the bath at close of day
that washes the weary mud away
A loon is he that will not sing
O! Water Hot is a noble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain,
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better then rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed
but better is beer if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I find it useful to have help when putting on rubber garments, especially stockings and gloves. It's good to have someone to help squeeze out air-bubbles.

I dislike the sensation of wearing rubber sufficiently that I can't see myself going in the stockings-and-gloves direction any time soon :) Still, I thought the dress was small enough that it would probably be okay ;) It also unzips easily - any claustrophobia I get can be instantly solved by nakedness!

Is your latex mask genuine military wear?

If not, have you ever considered a WW2 gas mask (or simply a acrylic balaclava?) Far less hassle and with the former you have the added bonus of surviving any mustard gas attacks - if hostilities were to break out. SS regalia, terrorist garb, etc., is so sensual.

Um, no - Where did you get the idea it was military? It's a bird mask.

SS regalia, terrorist garb, etc., is so sensual.

You're kidding, right? If not - well, it's not my kink.

No, no kidding. That would require a sense of humour, I'd say, something my solicitor is willing to testify I have never been in the possession of.

I have I liking for such wear and it's not all that uncommon in certain circles - that's all. I didn't assume you did, I simply asked out of general curiosity.

Best.
