helenic: (BOOTS OF SEXING)
[personal profile] helenic

I would, like, apologise and say this will be the final party post, but clearly everyone's going to be posting about it for the next week, if not DECADE, so I just can't make those kinds of promises.

We have tidied and [livejournal.com profile] strongtrousers has filled his enormous car with food and booze to whet the appetites of an army of hungry alcoholic goths. Seriously, we ended up spending more than Christmas, although by "we" I mainly mean "[livejournal.com profile] elise and [livejournal.com profile] strongtrousers". There is gin, and vermouth, and vodka, and tequila, and several boxes of wine and crates of BEER, and mixers, and crisps and dips and bread and bacon and sausages and eggs and sausage rolls and scotch eggs and no longer any room at all in our fridge. There are also FOUR disposable barbeques. Therefore! If you are intending to bring something, and have not decided what you should bring, here are some ideas:

- MEAT. Large lumps of meat for the cooking thereof on said barbeques.
- other not-meat things to scorch and eat if that is more to your taste
- shot rocks! ice shot glasses are the coolest. Literally!
- a paddling pool! it is clearly REQUIRED. Jelly optional.
- more portable barbeques because we'll probably run out
- a power pack for plugging a stereo into outdoors so we can have le musique on the common when people are spinning fire poi
- oh yeah, fire poi ([livejournal.com profile] denari is already bringing some apparently, for he is ace)
- booze, narcotics, pretty people, and you know, all the rest of the stuff we said on the invite.

See you tonight! Or tomorrow! Whichever! I intend it all to become something of a blur.

Have fun! And don't censor all the reports of debauchery!

Hee! I'm now seriously tempted to paste CENSORED labels across every single photo that gets taken.

I have much debauchery to write about, actually, but it's probably all going to go in [livejournal.com profile] si_placet. If I ever get time...

I can't believe we are going to have to miss this. Gah!

Will catch up and see you sometime soon, hopefully... :)

I can't believe you're going to have to miss it either! We'll be sure to have a drink or two on your behalf.

It looks like Col and I will meet up with J tomorrow once he's done with work, head up to Cambridge, join forces with Jon and Sherman, and then head over to the party, so I expect we'll be quite late, maybe around 10, all being well. Hopefully, we won't miss too much of the fun, and you'll all still be awake :-)

Still trying to work out what to wear... through unrelated conversations, I've been reminded of the fact I never get to wear my ballgown. Hmmm.

Posted by [identity profile] libellum.livejournal.com
That sounds like a plan. People will almost certainly still be going then - there's a big influx of people turning up on Saturday evening, for a start. Besides, I'm sure your company will perk everyone up :)

The ballgown sounds grand! :D On Saturday evening I shall be wearing the BOOTS OF SEXING.

Posted by [identity profile] skorpionuk.livejournal.com
I'd hope that not too many would flake out by 10pm of a Saturday night, frankly! And I'll try my best to perk people up, then. :-)

OK, I'll see if it still fits and looks nice. At least it's sleeveless, should be good in the heat! HOORAY for boots :-)

Can I safely say "nice boots" to the icon, without fear of (possibly willful) misinterpretation?

Yes! They are very nice. [livejournal.com profile] dennyd bought them for me because he's a pervert lovely.

I am going to forego tonight in order not to miss the train to Pride, but I will come back on Saturday evening marched and ready to party. Wooo.

Sounds good! We bought a BBQ chicken from Somerfield last night, but when we got it home and looked at it, we saw that it had gone off :( Not pleasant. A huge chunk of cow would be much better! :)

We are planning to buy a paddling pool this week. If I can get Dad to buy it today I may be able to bring it with me depending how heavy it is. It's huuuuuuge. :D

Posted by [identity profile] libellum.livejournal.com
Ooooooh that would be rather fantabulous. Although if it's that huge I have no idea how we'll fill it because it won't fit on the balcony. Unless we put it on the floor of the kitchen ... which clearly wouldn't be a stupid idea AT ALL.

Posted by [identity profile] uberredfraggle.livejournal.com
Or you could send someone to argos. The one we're getting is quite big and only £20. Small ones will be quite cheap. Would it be ok if I invited someone to come with me? I'm still nto sure yet if he's available but he has a car which will make things a lot easier. :) don't worry if not.

Not at all, as long as he's fabulous and won't start abusing our guests :)

Don't abuse the guests? Oh...:p

Looks like I'll be getting a lift with [livejournal.com profile] azekeil and [livejournal.com profile] kissycat1000 now. I can bring the paddling pool if you want but it is not small. :)

I hope you have fun this evening. I'm sorry that I'm unable to travel down to be there.

I may find myself in London over the next 3-4 months, if you feel like meeting for coffee/exploring/cycling.
I'll most likely make my itinerary known on lj.

Take care
*kisses*

Wow, it's so nice to hear from you! I'd love to meet up in London sometime. Coffee sounds like it would be lovely - or you could pop round and meet our keeeton, once we have it :)

I would guess that [livejournal.com profile] denari will be bringing a fire-staff, as that's his preferred toy. I'll have fire-poi with me - which reminds me, I must put the new chains and handles on them. And remember my lighter. And the parafin. And everything else.

So many things-to-do, so few brain cells :-\

on 2006-06-30 02:43 pm (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] libellum.livejournal.com
It's alright, you won't need braincells once you get here. Here is a handy packing list for you:

- clothes to wear, unless you want to be naked, which might get a bit cold at times.
- toothbrush, contact lenses.
- droogs.
- fire-poi, chains, handles, lighter, paraffin.
- glowy poi.
- juggly things.
- latex polish.
- my tawse, and any other toys you want to bring. Like maybe your cane please maybe?

See? Easy! *kiss*

The Unexamined Meal is Not Worth Eating
http://www.arkangelweb.org/features/20060621meat.php

"The term meat eater appears neutral, but it is instead evasive. The terms corpse eater or flesh eater may feel judgmental but are, in fact, accurate"

on 2006-06-30 02:57 pm (UTC)

meat
n 1: the flesh of animals (including fishes and birds and snails) used as food

I don't see any inaccuracy or evasion in the term.

Also, that article is written by an idiot, or by someone who thought the reader would be an idiot:
"is it not curious that we do not eat [...] carnivores?"
No, it's not curious at all. They taste bad, due to the way their body chemistry is set up (to enable them to run fast and catch things). We prefer to eat things that taste better.

(As a vegetarian) I agree. The article has some interesting points, but isn't very representative as far as I can see.

Some people are squeemish about saying they eat flesh. I may be amused by this, or be one of them. (In actual fact, both). But "meat" is a perfectly natural term -- it's constantly useful in language to distinguish between flesh intended to be eaten, and other flesh.

"Omnivore" or something might be slightly more accurate because "meat eater" *could* be used to imply someone eats *mainly* meat, which isn't normally what's meant, but afaik "meat eater" is quite unexceptional to mean "eats meat at all." Omnivore or non-vegetarian are also acceptible. Carnivore is acceptible only in jest, as it's not accurate :)

When I first saw that icon I thought you were someone taking the piss out of animal rights weirdos. Then I realised you *were* an animal rights weirdo! Zzzzzzzzz.

P.s. I always like to examine my big, tasty, meaty meals before I eat them, to enhance their deliciousness through multi-sensory appreciation of both visual and taste factors.

Hello! Sorry I couldn't make the party. It has however occurred to me that we should return each other's CDs before we both leave Cambridge. When would be a good time to do this? (I am also free some daytimes if that's better for you.)
