partypartyparty
Jun. 30th, 2006 10:00 amI would, like, apologise and say this will be the final party post, but clearly everyone's going to be posting about it for the next week, if not DECADE, so I just can't make those kinds of promises.
We have tidied and
strongtrousers has filled his enormous car with food and booze to whet the appetites of an army of hungry alcoholic goths. Seriously, we ended up spending more than Christmas, although by "we" I mainly mean "
elise and
strongtrousers". There is gin, and vermouth, and vodka, and tequila, and several boxes of wine and crates of BEER, and mixers, and crisps and dips and bread and bacon and sausages and eggs and sausage rolls and scotch eggs and no longer any room at all in our fridge. There are also FOUR disposable barbeques. Therefore! If you are intending to bring something, and have not decided what you should bring, here are some ideas:
- MEAT. Large lumps of meat for the cooking thereof on said barbeques.
- other not-meat things to scorch and eat if that is more to your taste
- shot rocks! ice shot glasses are the coolest. Literally!
- a paddling pool! it is clearly REQUIRED. Jelly optional.
- more portable barbeques because we'll probably run out
- a power pack for plugging a stereo into outdoors so we can have le musique on the common when people are spinning fire poi
- oh yeah, fire poi (
denari is already bringing some apparently, for he is ace)
- booze, narcotics, pretty people, and you know, all the rest of the stuff we said on the invite.
See you tonight! Or tomorrow! Whichever! I intend it all to become something of a blur.

"The term meat eater appears neutral, but it is instead evasive. The terms corpse eater or flesh eater may feel judgmental but are, in fact, accurate"

on 2006-06-30 02:57 pm (UTC)n 1: the flesh of animals (including fishes and birds and snails) used as food
I don't see any inaccuracy or evasion in the term.
Also, that article is written by an idiot, or by someone who thought the reader would be an idiot:
"is it not curious that we do not eat [...] carnivores?"
No, it's not curious at all. They taste bad, due to the way their body chemistry is set up (to enable them to run fast and catch things). We prefer to eat things that taste better.

on 2006-06-30 05:59 pm (UTC)Some people are squeemish about saying they eat flesh. I may be amused by this, or be one of them. (In actual fact, both). But "meat" is a perfectly natural term -- it's constantly useful in language to distinguish between flesh intended to be eaten, and other flesh.
"Omnivore" or something might be slightly more accurate because "meat eater" *could* be used to imply someone eats *mainly* meat, which isn't normally what's meant, but afaik "meat eater" is quite unexceptional to mean "eats meat at all." Omnivore or non-vegetarian are also acceptible. Carnivore is acceptible only in jest, as it's not accurate :)

on 2006-07-01 11:58 pm (UTC)P.s. I always like to examine my big, tasty, meaty meals before I eat them, to enhance their deliciousness through multi-sensory appreciation of both visual and taste factors.
