One of the loveliest surprises I've had in ages, and almost entirely anonymous (perhaps I'm being dense, but the initials were no help at all). I know you didn't do it out of any desire for reciprocity, but I'd still like to lavish similar kindness on you, all the same. If the photograph was your own, it's bloody marvellous. Also, I'm thoroughly bemused by the lack of postmark. Anyone care to own up? Or say hi via screened/anonymous comment? I am intrigued by you, mystery person!

Gertrude by Hermann Hesse, with substantial and rather wonderful quotations copied out by hand. I haven't had time to read it yet, but I intend to as soon as I've finished this Vestal Virgins essay :)

Oh, hi Libellum! 'Twas I. I wanted to thank you - in my backward, anomic way - for something you said a little while ago that crystallized exactly what i feel/felt about a certain issue. I was a little worried you'd think I was odd for sending a virtual stranger a gift, but I'm pleased to see it meant something to you. (ahh, what a strange world this is when one feels the threat of neurosis looming whenever he tries to be kind to those who he does not know). I can’t remember when i stumbled upon your journal, although I imagine it was during one of those boring nights spent following trails through live journal, which started with my ex-girlfriend's jpournal, went to verte's via my girlfriends' housemates journal, and on through to you. But, anyway, your journal is always a pleasure to read, full of passion, integrity and honesty, and making my heartless scribbles look quite graceless by comparison.
