Tree of Life
Nov. 8th, 2007 01:33 amStarting with the unsold ones...
This is probably my favourite painting out of the whole exhibition - in fact, it's hanging on the wall above my mantelpiece at the moment, I couldn't bear to leave it in storage :) Kristen and I worked on it slowly at her flat over the course of several months. The painting extends onto the sides of the canvas, so it hangs well without a frame, and it's signed by both artists.

Tree of Life
Acrylic on canvas, 32" x 40"
by Helen Lambert and Kristen Clatworthy
Original artwork for sale; £300 ONO
3 limited edition runs of 50 prints available to order
My favourite things about this painting are the achingly bright, distant, late afternoon summer sunlight stretching away at the top of the frame; the magical sense of depth in the spiral of butterflies on the right; the accidental yin-yang pattern emerging from the swirls of colour on the left; the gold highlights that catch the light at odd moments; the sense of lifting, rustling movement you get from the birds flying up out of the branches. It's definitely one of our more psychedelic paintings. I'll be sorry to see it go, but I have a tax return to file in January, so any sales in the run up to Christmas would be extremely welcome!

on 2007-11-08 08:44 am (UTC)It's startlingly uplifting.
Like a Picasso or a Garfunkel?

on 2007-11-08 11:35 am (UTC)I am very interested in getting a print of that; will have to consult with housemates before deciding between A4 and A3.
But wow.

on 2007-11-08 07:32 pm (UTC)Brain is trying to work out where it would go!! Sadly bank balance would only allow a print.
One day we will have original artwork, one day.

on 2007-11-10 06:25 pm (UTC)So, yes I would love to have a print, A3 if I may. Just let me know how/where/when to send payment.
When I got to thinking about original artwork, I realised that if photography counts, we are surrounded by it!! The walls are filled with some of Bill's wonderful pictures. He had one published in the Historic Scotland magazine last month, and one in an exhibition in Amsterdam recently. We are a bit chuffed!

on 2007-12-06 02:52 pm (UTC)The potential problem here is that I haven't done any of the tests I was planning yet. My projected schedule was: post all the paintings, get an idea of demand. Order three sizes of prints (A4, A3 and A2) of all the paintings people want prints of, and see how many of the A2 ones are saleable. My images aren't as high res as the printers recommend, but I can't afford to get the paintings professionally scanned and I don't know how much of this is the printers' being perfectionist/trying to sell me scanning services. So. If you want an A2 print, I would feel a little bit dodgy accepting the order without having had time to see a test first.
That said, I've just called the printers and they can send it to me within three working days - if I send them the image and payment today or tomorrow, they say they could probably post it to me by the beginning of the week. Because I haven't had time to do any of my sample print runs yet, I would want them to send it to me first so I can have a look at it. I'd then post it to you. This would probably cost a few quid and take about a week, if the stuff
Do you want me to go ahead with it? I'd much rather do all this in the order I'd planned to so I can be sure of the quality before I accept payment from anyone. If the print isn't something I'm happy with, I'm not sure what I'll do at that stage - send it to you and possibly give you a discount, I guess, and then not use that printers or that size print again. Also, Christmas mail is probably horrible overseas, so it may be too late already if you want it by Christmas day.
If it doesn't have to be by Christmas day, I'd advise waiting until I've had a chance to order the samples and work out what I think works and what doesn't. So let me know what you want to do, and if you do want to go ahead with putting an order in, I can do it today or tomorrow :)

on 2007-12-06 07:16 pm (UTC)I wish you'd written with a simple "no" so I didn't have to wait. I didn't need a long explanation; I just needed to know whether I should buy something else.
