missing scanner cable

So I'm dutifully moving down my to do list, and finally got round to unboxing my scanner and plugging it in for the first time since I moved, so I can scan in various bits of new art, some of which I need to send to other people. The only problem with this is that the scanner's cables aren't in the box where I expected them to be. They must have got packed with the rest of my computer stuff - which was unpacked when I first moved in. Looking on the back of the scanner I need a usb cable, which I have in my desk drawer. Fine. I also need a 12V DC plug. The hole in the speaker is round, but bigger than the normal round ends that fit into Nokia chargers and speakers. I've looked through my Box O' Cables and everything seems to be 8, 9 or 10V - I don't have any 12V mains adaptors. Until I can find one, I can't plug my scanner in. I don't suppose any of you have something like this going spare? If not I guess I'm just going to have to go to Maplins and see if they sell them separately.

on 2007-12-04 03:48 pm (UTC)Problem with these things is they often don't give the amperage required. You'll need this value as well as the voltage, best have a look over the items before you go. Normally somewhere near the socket or on a lable the base it'll mention the current required. It'll be given in milliamps ( ie 500ma 1500ma) or amps ( 5.6A or 0.5A). The adapter you buy needs to equal or exceed this value, otherwise it'll break sooner or later. Also getting the appropriate adapter might save you a few quid and/or a return journey
