Am back from Whitby. I shall write about it when I have more time; I now have about two weeks' worth of catching up to do, inbetween that and being ill, so expect to not see much of me over the next fortnight. In the meantime, here are some dates for your diary:
Wednesday 3rd November (i.e. tomorrow!): Downing Kenyan Formal Hall
Some of you may remember the Indonesian formal I helped organise last year for charity. This is one of them beasties. It's to raise money for the Hope Community Centre in Kenya, via the UK charity Rafiki. There will be an original Kenyan menu, an "animal masquerade" theme involving lots of dressing up (full costume is optional and masks will be available to buy for a few pounds on the door with the proceeds going to Hope), fab decor and general goodness. Guest tickets are about £9, which includes the three course menu, and of which £1 will go to the charity, but if you want a ticket you'll need to let me know by 5.30pm today. Please do come - it'll be great fun, is for charity, and will pay off all our hard work :)
edit: I apparently am unable to buy a ticket even for myself, either because they've stopped selling them earlier than they said they would, or because they've sold out - despite my being one of the organisers. I'm a bit bemused, but at least this means I'll have time to actually do some work...
Monday 22nd November: come-and-sing Messiah
I'm sure most of you have come across this phenomenon; I know I've done about three. Rehearsal is from 3pm-5pm in Downing chapel, and is entirely optional. The Messiah itself will feature talented soloists, harpsichord accompaniment, and will generally be light-hearted and un-perfectionist. The sing itself is at 7.30 (but I'm not sure, so will confirm) and there will be free wine and things afterwards.
Sunday 28th November: Downing Advent Carol Service
6pm in the college chapel, with mulled wine and mince pies afterwards. I'm singing in it and would love to see you there - we're quite good! And - carols! You really can't have too many carols.
In other news, I've left my phone in
davefish's car so am best contacted by MSN, comment or email, and I think I've left not only my camera but my A4 refill pad full of lecture notes in the flat in Whitby. Am complete muppet.

on 2004-11-02 05:05 am (UTC)I have illness too. The 28th sounds ace, and that's the weekend I'm going to try and get to Cambridge; Polly's just emailed me, but I can't read the thing on this laptop, so I need to go to campus and confirm. Will be very jealous of your getting to sing out of Carols for Choirs and such. The only choir that does a carol service in Leeds is the one I didn't get into. Bah.

on 2004-11-02 06:35 am (UTC)My immune system is holding the Whitby flu at bay, but only just - the glands in my neck are like eggs. Ugh. It'd be brilliant if you were here that weekend. I'm still waiting to hear if Michael and Kate are able to come to the dinner party I was planning on the 27th ...
