Dear all,

You are hereby cordially invited to the flat-warming of the Satyr Suite, also dubbed the Flat of Love and the Young Ladies' Seminary for the Taking In of Eccentric Waifs and Strays by various of its inhabitants. These are [livejournal.com profile] elise, [livejournal.com profile] libellum and [livejournal.com profile] strongtrousers, otherwise known as the Satyr (or, on occasion, Sapphic) Suities.

The flat-warming will take place on the evening and night of Saturday 20th August, from 7pm onwards. Party food (such as pizza, chips and dips, salads, cheese) will be provided. Please do bring a bottle or several, and as many friends as you can persuade to join you provided that they're fabulous.

The theme and dress code, in accordance with one of the flat's many names, is "Eccentric Waifs and Strays". This may manifest itself in various ways, and you are highly encouraged to dress in whichever manner you think best fits it. Suggested dress-codes include: Victorian/Edwardian; Street Urchin; Consumptive Heroine (it's actually the date of Emily Bronte's birth); Music Hall Trash; Lady (or, indeed, Gentleman) of Negotiable Affection; Dickens; Jack the Ripper; Ankh-Morpork; Burlesque; generic drag or other period costume.

The address can be found here or by commenting with your email address so I can send it to you.

[Poll #545782]

Edit: I forgot this and LJ won't let me edit, so could you reply in a comment if you're in Cambridge and able/willing to provide crashspace to partygoers? Many thanks.

[reposted 'cos of messed up tags]

My choices are (in rough order of preference):
  • Crash somewhere in Cambridge
  • Get the National Express coach back at the somewhat late but doable 3:15am
  • Drive & don't drink
  • Get the train back at the ridiculously early 10:50
So basically crashing would be good, but obviously as I have other choices I don't want to claim it if it's very limited in extent.

Posted by [identity profile] libellum.livejournal.com
We have one sofa and one single airbed, which you are, I think, welcome to, as no-one else has claimed them yet.

Alternatively, if you didn't mind turning up without knowing what you were doing, you could see if you could stay with someone in Cambridge, and if you hadn't found anyone by 3am get the coach back then? It's 15 mins walk or about 6 mins taxi ride to Drummer Street from the flat.

Would Matt not be joining you? That's a shame, I haven't seen him in ages...

Ah; no, I haven't managed to write any of the social emails I've been meaning to this week. I don't have the internet at home yet and during the day keep allowing myself to get distracted by work and organisational emails and, um, livejournal. There are two other people I've been meaning to write to as well. Sorry, am crap - will try to get my arse in gear after I've scheduled this meeting of DOOM.

Anyway, I'd love to attend, but I'm not certain if this would be possible. I shall talk to people and get back to you. Of course, you may be one of the people I talk to, in which case, I'll already have gotten back to-

Addn: I should be able to make it, and I won't need a lift. As for bringing alcohol, what interesting spirits or liqueurs do we have available?

Also, can anyone provide crashspace, and do any of you have advice or requests for what I should wear?

I'm not yet sure whether I can come or not and it may be something I have to decide on the day - depends how much energy I've got left after seeing Pericles standing up, what Nick wants to do, and how much money I've got (bit of a cashflow crisis...).

If I'm coming and Nick isn't then I will need crashspace, and would greatly prefer it to be chez the Suities as it won't be so far, and will thus be less stress. Though having said that, I may be seeing matters through the slightly fatigued eye of having walked 4 miles this afternoon while v. dizzy, for a GP appt which I missed by 15 minutes and thus didn't get to have. Grr.

on 2005-08-05 11:00 am (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] libellum.livejournal.com
Well, obviously if you were there then I'd be veryvery happy to see you. But I don't want you to make yourself ill for the sake of it. If you are here, you can certainly have crashspace, although if you only decide last minute then it may have to consist of the floor of one of our bedrooms. If you decide now, I can reserve you the airbed/sofa in the dining room...

ps. Grrrrrrrrr@ the gp appointment. grrrrrrr indeed. Was there no bus?

pps. Elise finally unpacked the clothes you gave me and they FIT YAY! they're really lovely and the trousers are actually a bit big for me, but in a flattering way, which is a nice change. they're not really my colour but perfect for work. thankyou so much!!!

ppps. oh and also say huge thanks to your father for the shoe racks. Or, even better, give me his home address so we can send him a thankyou card?

on 2005-08-05 11:03 am (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] libellum.livejournal.com
yes! there is some confusion with Tuesday - it may be just the two of us. Marcus is apparently in Iceland (these ASNACs, tut, I don't know) and Elise arranged to have dinner with [livejournal.com profile] simont. I'm trying to persuade both of them to join us instead so that we only have to cook one lot of dinner, but they'd rather watch "Yes, Prime Minister".

Would be fantastic if you could make it to the party!

I can bring someone from the London region if required. Coming from SW19 myself, so there's not really anywhere in London that I can't go through on the way to Cambridge.

I'm also happy to pick people up in the Cambridge area during Saturday and ferry them to the party, although I'm extremely unlikely to want to take them home afterwards.

(remember, sports car... only one passenger seat)

Can I beg somewhere soft to sleep for the night please? For I am a poorly cripple, etc etc.

on 2005-08-05 11:07 am (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] libellum.livejournal.com
You can certainly have somewhere to sleep. I'm not sure where exactly, though. [livejournal.com profile] liriselei is staying over, I believe, but I don't know if [livejournal.com profile] elise has any guests and I have no idea which beds all these people will arrange themselves into. I imagine [livejournal.com profile] corchen is staying as well. We can probably fit three in each of the doubles if it suits people at the time, but that's not the sort of thing that can be planned :)

but yes, we'll fit you in somewhere. If you can bring a sleeping bag that'd make things easier. We have lots of spare bedding so can always put people on duvets on the floor.

[livejournal.com profile] _matt__ and [livejournal.com profile] dreamfracture, thus far, are coming from London. They can fight over your passenger seat between themselves :)

A lift from/to leicester would be most preferable, else my chances of coming (funds allowing) are limited. And of course, I may require crash space. with whom/who's sofa/bed/floor/estury is not a real problem if you think they're trustable folk.

Have been saving the last 3-6 shots of rather expensive nice absinthe for just such an occasion!

on 2005-08-05 11:15 am (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] libellum.livejournal.com
not sure I can help out with lifts from Leicester, I'm afraid - I don't know anyone yet who's coming from that direction. And it looks like we're running out of crashspace in the flat, so you'd have to smile nicely at the other guests (I'm kind of hoping we might be able to decant a couple of friendly people into the villa...). Hope you can work something out transport wise! National Express tends to be useful, especially if you can get one of the funfares.

Hopefully I'll be able to come :-). I'll probably take the train -- it's shouldn't be too expensive. I'll need crash space unless there's a convenient very late (or staggeringly early) train to London. I'd accept an offered lift, but I really don't need one (from by the Albert Hall/Imperial College, SW7) so everyone else has priority! But if anyone happens to know the cheapest train ticket that would be useful :).

on 2005-08-05 11:17 am (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] libellum.livejournal.com
You can get a saver return for £16 with a young persons railcard, or fun fares on the coach for anything between £1 and £10, although booking advance might be wise if you're planning to do that. I think the last train back is about midnight; not sure about the first one on a Sunday without looking it up.

As I said, I'm going to attempt to persuade [livejournal.com profile] uncle_griff to come, mainly because then lots of OTHER shiny people will be able to come too. Well, some, anyway.

I have no idea how crashspace will work out. I imagine it'll be three or four to a bed at this rate, but that's okay because we're all skinny and they're large beds. Alternatively I could just spread spare bedding all over my bedroom floor and let people crash where they fall...

Help with tidying/cooking/shopping on the Saturday would be immensely useful :) I think there'll be another person around on the Friday night as well, so hopefully we might actually have enough hands. Although possibly not enough beds.
