Minimalist little winter painting I did over Christmas. I like the three-tone colour palette and I love the branches of the trees, but I'm less impressed by the bus. It gives the image a focus, though. I'd like to start doing more Thames paintings, not least because this will require me to regularly bimble along the Thames and take photos, which will be good for my soul.

London Bus
Oil on canvas, 8" x 8"

My parents bought this from me when they came round the other day, which was a nice surprise. I'm adding it to the Print List of Doom, though.

this is very pretty! although the tree on the left looks very weird about the trunk.

is it a particular bridge?

But trunks are never straight up and down! Haha, you're right though, it does look odd. I swear the tree was that shape, I just didn't even notice it was weird as I was painting it :)

Umm, I'm not sure actually. As in, yes, I had a photo of a particular bridge to crib from, but now I am not sure which particular bridge it was. Also I may have exaggerated the quantity of snow.

Thankyou! It's pleasing. The branches feature my new How To Paint Miniature Paintings Once Your Last Miniature Brush Has Died A Death. To whit, paint your branches with a thicker brush, then thin them on either side with white. Repeat until your branches are teeny. Ta da!

Of course, I could have gone out and bought a new miniature brush, but that would have been far too easy...

Matthew & I might well be interested in buying something similar to this - I'd like some pictures of London for our house, and this style hits the (very small) intersection between his preference for broad-brush impressionistic stuff and mine for greater detail (or cunningly suggested/implied detail)
